Facelift
The traditional facelift is directed at improving the middle and lower face, including the neck. During the procedure, the skin of the face and neck is tightened to provide a more youthful appearance. Excess fat in the neck may also be removed. Simultaneously, some patients choose to include additional procedures to diminish wrinkling and/or sagging around the forehead, eyebrows, eyelids and mouth.

During the procedure, incisions are made on the scalp, in the temple area, in front of the ears, and continuing around and behind the ear. The skin of the face is lifted from the facial muscles and pulled into a tighter position. In some cases, the facial muscles may be tightened simultaneously.

Facelifts are usually performed under local anesthesia with IV sedation, but may also be performed under general anesthesia. Post-procedure, stitches are removed in stages over the course of five to 10 days. Bruising and swelling can last up to four weeks. In some cases, it takes several months before the swelling is gone. Scars fade over the course of several months until, ultimately, they are minimally visible.
