Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic procedure intended to eliminate droopy eyelids and/or heavy bags under the eyes. It may be performed alone or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures, including a facelift, forehead lift or laser skin resurfacing.
During the procedure, incisions are made in the creases of the upper eyelid or below the lashes of the lower. Fat and excess skin are then removed.
Blepharoplasty may be conducted under local anesthesia with IV sedation or general anesthesia in an outpatient facility. Following the procedure, the patient will experience swelling and bruising. Scarring may be apparent for a short period of time following the procedure, up to several months, but will eventually fade and become undetectable.
