Otoplasty (Ear Surgery)
Otoplasty is a cosmetic procedure intended to reshape, reposition, or change the proportion of the ear. Most often, protruding ears are caused by a lack of development in the middle ear fold. This procedure effectively corrects the issue.

While the procedure is often performed on adults, it is also common in children and young adults, ages 4 through 18. The surgery is not performed on children younger than this, as the ear is not fully developed until age 4.

During the procedure, an incision is made behind the ears and the skin is lifted. The cartilage is then remolded and the skin redraped.

Otoplasty may be conducted under local anesthesia with IV sedation or general anesthesia in an outpatient facility. Following the procedure, the patient will experience temporary swelling and bruising.
