Reduction mammaplasty is a procedure whereby the breasts are reduced in size and recontoured to not only create a more aesthetically pleasing appearance, but to also reduce complications caused by the size,
weight and position of the breasts. These complications may include back and neck pain, bad posture, grooves in the shoulders from bra straps, and rashes under the breast due to moisture collection and heat.
These symptoms may contribute to limited performance in certain occupations and sports.
During the procedure, the nipple areola complex is repositioned upward and, if indicated, reduced in size. Excess skin and breast tissue is removed from the lower and/or outside portion of the breast.
Reduction mammaplasty is performed under general anesthesia. Following the procedure, patients may experience bleeding, swelling, decreased sensitivity and discoloration. It may take several weeks before patients may resume normal activities.
Price Range: Approximately $6800 if done cosmetically
